A variety of opportunities are available to enhance your youth's experience in the Orono Public Schools Community.
Orono Intermediate School
3rd - 5th Grade
What: An opportunity for students to do their homework after school with adult supervision and assistance.
Who: Lead by Maryanna Massey and high school volunteers.
When: Every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 4:45pm.
Where: The Orono Middle School Media Center, students can take a bus there from the Intermediate School

Mentors
What: Academic mentors are available for students to improve performance in school and serve as another caring adult in a youth's life.
Who: High school students and adults in the community are a majority of mentors.
When: Work to find a time that works best for the mentor and your child.
Where: Mentor and mentee meet in the school the student attends

Orono High School
9th - 12th Grade



Mentor a Student
What: High School students have the opportunity to mentor a younger student.
Who: Maryanna Massey coordinates the mentors and creates matches on an as needed basis.
When: Mentor and mentee find a time during the school day when they can meet. Schedules are made based on the availability of mentor and mentee.
Where: High school students go to the school the mentee attends to meet

Youth in Action
What: Youth service group that allows students to receive 1/4 of a high school credit upon completion of requirement at the end of the academic year.
Who: The program is headed by Gretchen Vandeputte. She provides service ideas and opportunities for students and sets the requirements.
When: Students sign up to participate at the beginning of the school year, meet once per month and are responsible for scheduling their own service commitments.
Where: Students meet monthly during Flex in the cafeteria at the Orono High School, but can do service projects anywhere.

Orono Middle School
6th - 8th Grade


What: After school opportunity for students to get homework done and receive support and assistance to lead to successful academic careers
Who: The program is lead by an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow, brought into the school district through grant dollars.
When: Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school from 2:45pm - 4:00pm.
Where: Students meet in the Orono Middle School Media Center

FiftyFifty Youth Night
What: Once per month, a youth night is held at the Orono Discovery Center. Games, DJ, dancing, Wii and concession stand makes for a great Friday night out!
Who: Robin Rhodes and other adult support come together to supervise this even each month.
When: Held once per month on Friday nights.
Where: The FiftyFifty Youth Center at the Orono Discovery Center in Maple Plain.
